Boiler decisions depend on the complete hydronic system.

A boiler heats water that circulates through a home's hydronic distribution system, which may include radiators, baseboards or in-floor loops. Unlike a furnace, it does not heat the home by sending warm air through supply ducts.

The boiler, pumps, zone valves, expansion tank, safeties, controls, piping, emitters and venting all affect operation. Visible leaks, pressure or temperature changes, unusual noise, uneven zones and repeated lockouts are reasons to have the system diagnosed rather than choosing a replacement from the old nameplate alone.

A replacement assessment should review heat loss, fuel and electrical requirements, venting and combustion air, condensate drainage where applicable, system-water condition and whether the existing distribution can be retained. The role of the boiler in domestic hot-water production must also be identified when applicable.

Book boiler service when the current system needs diagnosis, or request a free quote to compare a planned replacement with the work required to keep the existing hydronic system dependable.

What is the difference between a boiler and a furnace?

A boiler heats water for radiators, baseboards or in-floor hydronic loops. A furnace heats air and distributes it through ducts. The two systems use different distribution equipment and service checks.

Can I keep my existing radiators or baseboards with a new boiler?

Often they can remain, but their condition, output, piping arrangement, flow and required water temperature must be checked against the proposed boiler and the home's heat loss.

Does a boiler provide air conditioning?

A typical hydronic boiler does not provide central cooling. Homes with boiler heat usually need a separate ducted, high-velocity or ductless cooling system.

When should I repair instead of replace a boiler?

Repair can make sense when the boiler and distribution system remain sound and the fault is limited. Safety concerns, serious leakage or corrosion, unavailable parts, repeated failures or a major scope of repair can shift the comparison toward replacement.

What is checked during boiler service?

Service should review thermostat and zone operation, pressure and temperature, visible leaks, burner and ignition, venting and combustion air, pumps, zone valves, expansion tank and installed safety controls before a complete heating cycle is tested.
